Consultant / Project Management
You actually studied business psychology — so why did you end up in the IT industry?
After graduating, I worked in a digital marketing agency for a few years and there I came into contact with the project management for the first time. At the agency, I already learned many things that make up my job today: tracking tasks, working together in teams and with customers, as well as creating schedules, resource planning and status reports. Since the employment contracts in digital marketing with long working days and comparatively low pay were not attractive for me in the long term, I set out to look for another working environment which challenges and promotes me, which is sustainable and which offers a healthy work-life balance - and I ended up as a PMO at a data center service provider, where I was able to gain further professional experience in projects of various sizes.
What do you enjoy most about your job at exccon?
I like the fact that the topics in the IT environment are more diverse than you might think as an inexperienced layman. Working at exccon is varied, because the industries from which customers come are as diverse as their concerns. I constantly have the ability to develop and learn more. In addition to project management and IT service management, I have recently been particularly interested in the topics of information security management and IT business continuity management. My colleagues also help me feel comfortable in my team. Whenever I'm looking for an exchange or need assistance, I can be sure that there will be someone to help me out. There is also a good work-life balance in this job - a very important point for me.
What do you have to bring with you to do your job?
Openness to technical topics is a basic requirement, even if detailed knowledge is not required - that is what the technical colleagues are there for. The focus of my work is on project management. For this, it is important to be able to keep clean documentation. A certain discipline is required to meet accountability to the client (budget and task tracking), as well as a sense of structure and structured time and resource planning, organizational talent and analytical problem-solving skills. Since it is part of the job to bring people together, keep in touch with the client's management, write emails, create documentation and prepare presentations, good expressive and communication skills are essential.
What in your life can you not do without?
Coffee, as well as small and large escapes from everyday life, e.g. through podcasts, eating, traveling, meeting friends or hiking.
The proportion of women in the IT sector remains low. As a woman, do you feel that you are in good hands with exccon?
Socially, I can understand the meaning of this question, but I have to say honestly: At exccon, it's not an issue at all for me. First, because the proportion of women here isn't that small, and secondly because there was never a reason for me to think about it - which is actually a good sign, isn't it?
How often do you work from home and why?
I work from home for 3-4 days/week, as I no longer work as an inpatient in the customer's office since Corona. I live outside Munich and really enjoy not having to commute every day. Nevertheless, it is important for me to be in the office 1-2 days a week to keep in touch with my colleagues. Within our team, we have arranged the Tuesday as a our “team day” - if possible, we come to the office on this day to see our teammates, have lunch together and thus maintain the team spirit.
