PRINCE2 - SCRUM - PRINCE2 AGILE?

PRINCE2 was recently redesigned and PRINCE2 7 has been available since September. A good time to look at and compare different project management methods again.

In this article, we will illustrate the differences between PRINCE2, Scrum and PRINCE2 Agile. Enjoy reading (and dreaming about your next vacation...)!

It is getting colder, greyer outside and autumn has arrived. It's a good time to plan your next summer vacation! Are you already feeling the warming rays of the sun? The fine sand under your feet? The gentle breeze that caresses your neck? Can you hear the soothing sound of the surf? The relaxing Caribbean sounds? Can you smell the scent of exotic flowers? Can you taste the salty sea air? The fruity, ice-cold cocktail? Can you see the indescribable turquoise of the crystal-clear water? Do you notice how you relax? Are you already looking forward to peace and “living into the day”?

...

Ah so? Do you have kids? Good, then a little less silence and a bit more animation. Yes, the budget is then more suited to “Adriatic” than “Caribbean” — especially during tight vacation periods. Of course, you shouldn't forget the perfect infrastructure — kids grumbling with hunger or boredom aren't fun! Would your friends like to come along? Then just a holiday home! Oh — ok if your friends would rather go to the hotel, it's best to browse through a stack of holiday catalogues with family and friends over a glass of wine beforehand to clearly define the requirements. The ladies want wellness, the men want barbecues, the children just want bathing. Perhaps you should also factor in trips, sightseeing, flight times or car trips in advance — both in terms of time and money.

With such clear guidelines, you could go on vacation after your project PRINCE2® plan. They create clear definitions and control parameters. This ensures that the interests of all stakeholders, sorry fellow travelers, are protected and that you remain on time & budget at all times. And above all, that you achieve the goal of “relaxing holidays.”

Are you now eagerly remembering how you organized your first vacation on your own? Yeaaaa, the most precise idea was “to the south” and “to the sea.” Rucksack on your back, Interrail ticket in your pocket and off to the train station. In one day, you ran your feet sore in a medieval town. The next day, you lazed on the beach. After each stage, you thought about where you wanted to go next. Was there red wine or beer for dinner? Well, what was just there! They were flexible and independent.

This is how a vacation that you have according to the idea of Scrum plan. Your journey consists of short sprints. Before you travel, you don't know exactly what you're going to see, what you're going to experience and where exactly you're going to land. Every morning, there is a short “stand up meeting” with the travel guide in hand and then it's on. If you enjoy something spontaneously, it is also worth the money. And in the end, you've still achieved your goal: “relaxing holidays.”

At some point, you're “not quite 20 anymore” and the kids are out of the house. Maybe you don't even have one. The requirements for “relaxed holidays” will then be lower. Sure — you already know that you no longer need cheap descents and that Interrail doesn't have to be anymore. Better a room with a sea view and a comfortable journey. If it is a bit more luxurious, then this is no longer an issue in monetary terms. You travel when it's not so crowded. When exactly? That depends on the destination and the rainy seasons there. Are you excited about an excursion on site? They join him! Your partner prefers to read a book in the shade during this time. But it's also nice that way.

This is a vacation that you want in the spirit of PRINCE2 Agile® plan. You provide a framework for your vacation concept. You have an idea of budget, destination and comfort — quality goals, so to speak. Rough planning prevents escalations — financial or interpersonal. The rest will then spontaneously and flexibly find their way to the goal of “relaxing holidays”.
